mission impossible 4

Not so, it still hasn't made back its production budget and is the lowest grossing film of the trilogy. If it did happen, MI:3 would have to sell like mad on dvd.

another option would be a straight to dvd outing with someone whos not famous

That's surprising really - many people thought it was almost as good as the first one, if not better. Must've been a ridiculously expensive film to make then if it hasn't made it's money back yet. Tom Cruise will have taken a big slice, I'm sure...

I quite liked MI3, but then I'm a big, big Alias fan - so perhaps my judgement was clouded by the fact it was directed by Alias chappie J.J. Abrams.

Not terribly bothered if they don't do MI4 - no huge loss...

The film cost in the region of $150 million but it had one of the largest prints and advertising budget in recent years which is what it will struggle to make back

I was wondering if MI4 will every be made after Tom Cruise problems recently with studios. However it seems it might after I read this on Moviehole:

"Seems Cruise/Wagner may have already found a new home to hang their hats

No I have to say that I do like the films even MI2 which is a bit average. I thought MI3 was the best film so far in the series and I will love to see a MI4!

Hmmm, I haven't seen MI:3 yet but MI:2 was quite bad...MI:4 would be too much I think. Stop while you're ahead. But since MI:3 made money it is a possibility.

Yeah but as I posted before Tom Cruise has moved studios and it is his new studio that are interested in bringing out MI4 so past box office takings dont really matter!

Seriously, I wouldn't hold your breath at least not with Cruise as the leaad character. The franchise, and to a certain extent Cruise himself, clearly don't inspire the movie going public so much these days. However, if it does get made think new lead and smaller budget - expect the mantle to be handed over on screen via Hunt's death or something along those lines.

If they do it without Cruise, it would be the first real fidelity to the original series (which fairly regularly replaced major cast members with no on-screen explanation).
