Missing Some Even Transponders

OK - I received my second 5100 replacement - All is OK

No problem on any of the transponders

And ... it has an E523 software version.

My old 5100 and the first replacement only had E522 - I wonder if this is related as the first replacement also had even transponder issues (as well as a bad smart card slot).

I have DPP LNB and DPP switch connected to a 5100 and 9200

The 9200 is working flawlessly ... Switch Check is OK

The 5200 will not receive on certain transponders. Signal strength on those even transponders is 0% .... Switch Check indicates that I am only receiving ODD transponders

So ... I called BEV and arranged for a replacement ... which I received today.

Same problem.

Then, I connected both 5200's directly to the EV91 lead from the DPP LNB by-passing the DPP switch - Results are the same.

The 5200 (both my current and BEV replacement) are getting 0% signal strength on certain EVEN transponders (4,6,8) (2 is OK at 79%)

Both are same software Rev E522

Help ...

Steve

I had a similar issue trying to hook 3100s up to a DP34 switch/DP Dual Twin LNB setup, i.e. my 6100s worked fine, but my 3100s (and a 2700) would only receive (IIRC) "odd" transponders. Tried everything recommended - switch bypass, R6 cables only, new connectors, etc. etc. etc., except replacing the switch and LNB. It could be that the problem is a faulty switch or LNB, but that wouldn't explain why both work fine when I'm using my 6100s. I'm convinced it's just a case of older legacy receivers not working all that well with more recent switches & hardware. Not really of any help to you, but thought I'd put in my two cents anyway :)

Spoke too soon ....

Worked for a couple of hours and now back to the same error when selecting channels on Transponder 4 (627, 621, 521 ...)

Signal check shows 98-100% on transponder 4

Switch check works fine too.

... just wish I could figure this out ...

I've just started experiencing the same problem on my 5900. I'm also running DPP LNB and DPP Switch. My 9200 and 6100 are both working fine. The problem only appears on Sat 91 TP 4 & 20 that I've noticed. This setup has been in place for almost 2 years without issue. Tried the standard check switch soft/hard reboot. The TP's report high 90% signal strength when checked from the 5900.

Weird problem . . .

Thing is - this setup has been working fine for just over 2 years (since I got my 9200 and DPP stuff)

I've been troubleshooting this for a while

I've ordered an new DPP LNB off E-Bay. I'll try it out when it arrives.

Will let you know how it works out.

If I understand correctly the 9200 does work correctly...

Do both receivers have an independant line going to the dish or are you using a "splitter"? "Splitter" could cause that type of issue

Assuming that you are not using a "splitter" put the 5200 were the 9200 is...is the problem still there? If yes that mean the problem is the cable, if no that mean your receiver is defective AGAIN.

Remember replacement unit are REFURBISHED units, not new. Those are receiver that other client had who had tech issues which have been repaired, the risk that it would break down again are greater

Agent, I am still trying to work out if he has 5100's or 5200's.?

My guess is 5100's because otherwise he would be using more than one Dish Pro Plus switch.

Posted earlier about having same problem when I switched to DP LNB/34 switch a few months ago and trying everything suggested without success. Led me to conclude problem could only be caused by one of two things: faulty DP LNB/switch or some issue using DP or DPP hardware with legacy receivers. sbabcock' & gacdss' posts seem to eliminate the second cause (legacy receivers), as both have legacy receivers that worked fine with DP and DPP equipment until recently. On the other hand, the fact my (non-)legacy 6100s work fine with the DP hardware (and even sbabcock and gacdss' legacy stuff worked with their respective DP/P hardware until recently) seems to eliminate the first cause (faulty LNB/switches).

This has led me to speculate there might be a third cause - some recent change in the satellite signal that results in legacy receivers not receiving even transponders when used with DP/DPP hardware. This would explain why sbabcock and gacdss have used DP/DPP hardware with legacy receivers until recently and why all of our DP/DPP hardware works with non-legacy receivers. Now it could be that all of our DP/DPP hardware just happened to "partially" fail recently (remember, non-legacy receivers still work fine) and coincidentally, but that seems less plausible than some recent change in the signal causing the problem.

Any comments on my theory? In particular, is it possible a recent change in the sat signal could be causing our problems with legacy receivers only getting "odd" transponders with DP/P hardware?

Receiver missing odd or even transponder could have various causes:

-LNBF problem, in that case ALL receiver would have the same issue

-Splitters, which would work for a while, then gives that type of issue

-Cabling, you swap the receiver with a "good" one and the issue persist

-Receiver, you swap the receiver with a "good" one an issue is resolved

As l posted previously on another thread, AEV, I have eliminated all of the above as potential causes. Specifically:

1. Unlikely I have a LNB problem, since my 6100s work perfectly with my DP LNB;

2. I'm not using any "splitters", but I am using a DP34 switch. I'm pretty certain it's not the switch, since (again) all of my 6100s work fine and none of my legacy receivers (2 3100s and a 2700) get even transponders. Also, I don't get even transponders on the legacy receivers even when I bypass the switch and connect them directly to the LNB.

3. I'm certain cabling isn't the issue, since I don't get even transponders on any of my legacy receivers regardless of which cable I use to connect them and regardless of whether I connect them to the switch or directly to the LNB.

4. I'm certain it's not the receivers, since none of the three legacy receivers I have get even transponders.

As I posted above, the above circumstances, coupled with sbabcock's and gacdss' experiences, have led me to think there might be an additional cause beyond the four you've noted, being that the sat signal has recently changed in some way so as to cause the problem the three of us are experiencing.

Thanks for everyone's replies

5100 ....

Going through a DPP44 switch - the 9200 and 5100 have worked fine fine for 2 years with them both connected this way

Connecting 5100 directly to LNB without switch yields same problem.

I am waiting for another replacement 5100 as the one they sent me had a bad Smart Card slot.

I will have it in a day or two.

Oh ... one other thing ... sometime the Switch Check works and sometimes it doesn't on the 5100's - very intermittent - even when it works, I still cannot get Transponder 4 channels.

When you say checkswitch worked out fine, what do you mean by that? Do you mean that both odd and even were present under transponders?

I have received a new DPP LNB

My 5100 seems to be getting all the channels now.

I suspect that the problem has been with a gradually degrading DPP Dual LNB as my HD PVR was sometimes starting to not received channels on some of the even transponders.

I will re-post in a few days to confirm that replacing the DPP did fix the transponder issue as the problem on occasion did go away but always re-appeared with a few hours or so. I'll wait and see.

Replacement takes 5-7 buisness day to arrive. I'm still waiting for mine and call for replacement on the 3rd.

Did they actually replace your 5100 with a 5100?

That seems very odd, unless you are talking a few years ago as that model has not been available for a long time now.

Also if it is being replaced, then that would make me believe it is Rented, which is impossible as the Rental program has not been around long enough for that model. Check your model numbers. If it IS a 5100 then your not renting so why would they provide you a replacement, unless you are paying for said replacement.?

Yes - ordered from E-Bay

Note - some DPP units are USED .... I made sure that I purchased new.
