Missing new text message address completion

I'm definitely starting to miss my BB which allowed me to type the first few letters of a name and be presented with a list of possible matches - all from the new message composition view. On my N95, in order to browse contacts, I need to go through the menu.

Is there no setup option or application that will allow me to type part of a contacts name in the new text message window rather than manually browsing or typing the phone number directly?
 
when composing a message, in the address box, notice on the top right of your screen there's a little pen and "123". If you press and hold the # key, it'll change to pen and "abc". This will allow you to type a few characters and get a list.

To switch back (i.e. send a text to a number) just press and hold the # key again.
 
Is there a setting that needs to be enabled somewhere else? I did try enabling the abc mode and typing two letters but no drop down list appeared.
 
Ok. Proper method for the N95.

Enabled 'abc' mode > type one or two letters > press the 'OK' button > list of possible matches is displayed at the bottom of the screen.
