Missed Opportunities

There were two. A 50 episode TV series known as The Ultraman/Ultraman Jonias and the aforementioned DTV. And Jonias went over pretty well, far better than Planet.
 
The Ultraman USA animation actually looks pretty cool. I don't like that they can just automatically turn into the Ultra-people though.
 
A episode of Avatar in which, we learn if Benders are born with the ability to bend or learn it. I know they learn it but, something tells me a lot of people don't have the "genes" to bend. Such, as Firebenders outside of the Avatar being able to bend water.

Episodes of Dragon Ball Z Kai telling us what exactly happened during Piccolo's and Gohan's training.

Phineas and Ferb episodes telling us fully about Phineas and Ferb's parents. About Candace's and Phineas's father and Ferb's mother.

A episode of Adventure Time telling us about Finn and Jake's friendship and full past.

A episode of Pokemon about how Misty, Brock, and Tracey became what they are when they met Ash.
 
Is that really something worth an episode to talk about? I mean, it just feels like something akin to "force = midichlorians" if they have to explain those things.

Of course there were episodes that detailed what happened... From 20 years ago.

And honestly, the rest of what you said don't really define "missed opportunities", but rather backstory elaboration.
 
From what I heard about the plastic man animated series not being picked up is because CN wanted Johnny Test over it, talk about a poor choice CN :sad:. now that I think of it...I was hoping that Suzi X would kill off Edward and bella in the haunted world of El superbeasto. I would have loved to see this happen.
 
Not having April or Splinter meet their 80's counterparts in Turtles Forever. That could have lead to so much hilarity! :D






Considering how well it's done for them in the ratings, it wasn't a poor choice at all.
 
Yeah, I would've preferred that ending actually. It'd make him more heroic too since that world still has a bunch of super-villains running around and only one hero (Luthor) and the army to stop them.
 
Ninja turtles the 80s series could have been better than batman tas had it been closer to the comics but instead it was done as a comedy and while that's ok for some to me and many fans including the creators it was disrespectful.The series ultimatly lost it's touch imo after the first 4 episodes because not only was the action taken out of the series but the comedy was overly done for my taste even as a kid.Great voice actors,good animation for the time and amazing source material but unfortunatly tv wasn't ready for a dark series yet.I will say though if i look at it as a parody the series can and does amek me smile.. alot.

buffy the vampire slayer's animated series could have continued the adventures or at least changed the storylines but fox passed it up.

Given how the DBZ anime added more Saiyaman stories, it would have made for an interesting one shot story to see Gohan having to stop a robbery/crime committed by Launch. Plus, it would mean one less episode of padding.



April yes, but again, 1987 Splinter is also the counterpart to Hamato Yoshi, so I can only wonder what 2003 Splinter would think of an alternate form of his owner being a mutant.

Now Casey Jones meets Casey Jones would be a laugh. 1987 Casey Jones finding out that his 2003 counterpart is married to April, while 2003 Casey observes the more wacky antics of his 1987 counterpart.
 
The Silver Surfer cartoon from the late 90's never really lived up to its potential. The main writer for the series clearly had a love for the material and there were some epic adventures, but they ultimately lead to nowhere because of Marvel's bankruptcy killing the production for every cartoon.

Spider-Man Unlimited and the Avengers: United They Stand toons were mercifully killed by the bankruptcy. But the Surfer came closest to having its second season made because scripts were actually ordered and written for it.
 
Dragonball Z is often frowned upon for it's filler (anime exclusive moments). To keep itself behind the manga, many sagas were extended.

But I believe that the problem wasn't simply the fillers, but the fact that they went with extending some stories and resulting in poor pacing. Personally I think that having more filler stories would have been better than simply stretching out canon stories.

Now where's the missed opportunity you may ask? The early portion of the Android Saga (Or Trunks Saga is it?) would have have been a good chance for some added stories. I mean after all, there were three full years unaccounted for, and thus it would be easy to tell some stories with that amount of story time.
 
Part of that had to do that that old bugaboo - acquiring the rights!

Josie & The Pussycas were originally supposed to be on the Scoobies team, but the owners refused to yield so they went with Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels.

For the Rottens, they couldn't get Dick Dastardly and Muttley so they created the Baron out of whole cloth and then took Mumbly (a good guy no less on his own show!) to replace them. The Daltons were taken from an old Huckleberry cartoon (well, Dinkey Dalton at least). Then they took the Gruesomes from the Flintstones and put them on the team. Daisy Mayhem and that one eyed pig of hers were also made up just for the show. I think it would have been funny if they'd brought out villians from the HB 60s superhero rogues gallery instead (like, Space Ghost or the Impossibles) but what's done is done.




Agreed, but it was the 80s and at that time the networks weren't ready to take that kind of risk. Mainstream toons on TV were not that dark back then. Blame the suits if you must blame someone.
