Miss Saigon/Les Mis

i love musicals - and it would be good to see the filmed verisons of these shows.

wasnt keen on Miss Sia on the stage - but i am sure i will enjoy the film version.

Sunset Boulevard (muscial version) was meant to come out this year as well.

musicals are popular again lately - so suprised why these films havent been put through development,

i can see why for Les Mis - it is one of the better, famous muscials - and will take a pretty big budget, cast and production to give it any kind of justice. well, i hope so anyway.

Apparently the film of Les Mis is now going ahead, as they have cast Susan Boyle as Fantine.

However, they've changed the story slightly, so that Fantine doesn't die, and near the end she sings I Dreamed a Dream on top of the barricades, which moves everyone so much that they all decide to stop fighting and become communists instead.

I think it's disgraceful.

There have been several versions of Les Miserables. This one, with Anthony Perkins is probably the best (well, it's my favourite at least!)

Have you seen Oliver Stone's 'Heaven and Earth' with Tommy Lee Jones? That film always reminded me a little of Miss Saigon.

Do you mean simply filmed versions of the stage show itself, or a filmed adaptation of the stories without the music?

As has already been mentioned, Les Miserables have been filmed many times before - IMDB lists 18 different versions, including those made for TV.

It also shows a production of Miss Saigon in development for 2012, but you need to be registered on IMDBpro to view it.

Miss Saigon could work very well as a film. I really hope the movie gets made as rumoured and is done properly because I'd love to see it done successfully.

I'm not sure about Les Miserables. I've never liked any TV/movie versions because they leave too much out or make poor use of some of the characters. It works as a musical because the songs are so good and they manage to keep enough of the most important story elements, but all TV and film versions have left me cold, thus far. I'd love to see it done corrently, but I have little faith that it would be.

I hope these two films do get made eventually and if they keep them as musicals they cast people who can do the songs justice. Still annoyed over Gerard Butler (think that's his name) as the Phantom, wasn't at all keen on his singing.
