Was anyone else sad enough to watch Fearne meets Mischa?

Despite Mischa Barton clearly being an absolute horror, I can remember thinking that had I been her watching the programme, I would feel pretty hard done by. As she has expressed:

(The waiting refers to all the waiting around Fearne had to do).

I actually sympathise with her. During these programmes Fearne acts like the subject's best friend, praises them, doesn't complain and then goes and slags them off. It's not just cowardly, it's nonsensical and disparate. And if nothing else it's incredibly poor journalism. When Louis Theroux 'meets' his subjects he ingratiates himself to them whilst continually questioning their lifestyles. Fearne just sucks up to them and tells them how great they are, then as soon as the production team is in the editing studio they do a hatchet job on them.

I don't know what I was expecting, it is Fearne Cotton after all. Clearly a silly show made by a bunch of silly, bitchy girls.

Weirdly enough, though, with the Peaches Geldof one it seemed like she tried to convince us that Peaches was actually OK when it was obvious that she was just a rude tosser who needed sorting out.

This is the main problem with Fearne's show. She never confronts them about anything. So it's all in whispers to the camera before or after she meets them. It is cowardly.

watching Louis Theroux on sunday night showed how it's done but to be fair she's still young and with the experience she will improve.

I don't share your optimism. For me Cotton is dire on the radio, dire on TV. But at least on TV she's pretty to look at. On the radio she doesn't even have that!

Agree she is dire don't understand why she is meant to be such a great presenter. As for being pretty?

Not in my book I find her very unattractive.

I watched this episode and didn't think Mischa came across that badly. Yes she's a bit cooky, but show me an actress who isn't. If she did keep Fearne waiting around for hours then she should be prepared for that to be aired in the show - and of course Fearne isn't going to say anything to her at the time because she was trying to build a relationship with Mischa so she could get the most out of her in the interviews. For a girl who's been in the industry most of her life Mischa neeRAB to get a grip. Compared to others 'celebrities' featured on Fearne's show she came across quite well. She should watch the Peaches Geldof episode!

I agree with you up to a point - bad manners need to be called out. But why shouldn't Fearne have said anything at the time? It is possible to build relationships with people whilst maintaining professionalism. The best interviewers don't have to be sycophantic to get insight - again, look at Louis Theroux. Instead Fearne acted sweetness and light and said nothing - even at the end when they were wrapping things up Fearne was banging on about how fantastic and admirable Mischa was - it was like the cast of Mean Girls interviewing each other.

I did find it abit strange that Fearne said she was waiting all that time for Mischa because if that was me I would either have left & come back again when she was waiting outside her house & then during their chat when Mischa disappeared I would have gone & said something about needing to hurry up for filming purposes

I think everyone is being a bit harsh on Fearne to be honest. She seems like a genuine nice person with not a bad bone in her body. He interviewing obviously is not great but with time she might suprise a few people.

Thing is, Fearne isn't a journalist is she? She's just very lucky! If I remember, didn't she just win a presenting competition at a young age and climbed up the ladder that way? It's not a bad way to do it...I just don't think she's actually studied anything like that! So in fairness, it's not right to say she's practicing bad journalism...

But you're right. She does act like their best friend, as if everybody in the world loves her and knows who she is.
