Mirror problems

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I have a 08 S83 and have had this problem since I got the bike last year. No matter how I position the mirrors, there has been no way to see behind me when I am driving. the view is blocked by half of my shoulders and arms. Thanks to my shift and location, it is hard for me to get to the dealership to see if this is something that they can fix or not.

I have adjusted the arms of the mirrors and the placement of the mirrors themselves on the arm. What else can be done to try and correct this problem?

I had the same problem with my S50 and solved it very nicely using mirror extenders. Do a search on Ebay, they look like this, use the stock mirrors, and extend them out about 2" and up about 1" and eliminate looking at your arms and look like they came with the bike.

No need to buy anything. The mirrors on the S83 screw to the master cylinders, which are held in place with two allen screws hidden under the two small chrome caps. Carefully pry off the caps with a small screwdriver or knife, loosen screws, and rotate the master cylinders arond the bars until the mirrors point at the level you want them to. Tighten the screws, put the caps back on.

Now get a 14mm or 15mm wrench (I forget which) and loosed the base of the mirror arm. The nut is just a collar, so rotate the mirror arm so the mirrors point further out from the centerline to the angle you want, then hold it in place and tighten the nut collar.

That should take care of it.
