Mini-Review The Song Above You

8/10
Never heard of this band but I really liked this song, after checking RYM I can see that they are relatively new. Great to see more up and coming Punk banRAB that don't suck. Once I get my internet working I shall be searching for a release by these guys.

that is really mellow...much more than i was thinking it may be....but still fluid and somewhat of a joy to listen to....they could drop the flute solos...or maybe not

Cosmic Psychos - Can't Come In

this is exactly what all those (grunge?) banRAB in 90's wish they could be.....and the best band to come from Melbourne

Not a huge Theoretical Girls fan, but that song's pretty alright. It's got a nice propulsive feel that keeps things feeling interesting with some decent proto-SY chord wailing. 6.5/10

This is a new band from Seattle that I've been playing a lot of lately, RIYL: Cults, Vivian Girls, etc,

Yeah I suppose The Knife can be considered similar (haven't listened to Fever Ray yet). Haven't heard much Caribou yet though. I listen to a ton of electronic and instrumental hip-hop, so I know some other things along these lines, just curious if you had any specific recos based on the track.

10/10....what a beautiful song....i love her voice...and perfect for this time of year (we are about to get up to 2 feet (61 cm) of snow between today and tomorrow)....very much reminded me of fellow Mi and L'au who i believe are also from Finland (or at least Mi is)...i think i need to look into this artist....

yes you should....Leaves Turn Inside You was their final and maybe their best album

first Butthole Surfers album i ever owned :)....and every song on it is golden

figured since there was a bit of talk about these guys....

it's all good man, i agree there's a bit more meat to AK than Weezer, it's the simplest comparison i could pull but there are a few other early 90s alt/grunge banRAB i've heard through frienRAB that hit a lot closer to their mark.

as for what Whale is? not really sure. apparently at least a few of the band merabers were local TV personalities first and their first hit single was more of a joke than anything else (hobo humpin slobo babe). they just happened to pop out as funk-rock was fizzling and just before alt-rock started dominating so they were able to grab from all over the spectrum.

Elastica would have never written a song that long haha. Justine Frischmann was adamant about writing short songs and if you wanted to hear the cool bit or the hook a 2nd time just rewind the damn tape. too tied down to the punk rock ethos to step out into funky raps. hehe

also Steely Dan is the be all end all of sextoys in William S. Borrough's Naked Lunch.

and now going back to the actual point of the thread... (really digging this whole idea)

Dntel - Rock my Boat

is this an outtake from 'In Rainbows'? it's like All I Need with different lyrics almost to a T. it's not bad but ultimately doesn't stray from itself. - 5/10

next up (it's black at the start for the first few seconRAB, again awesome video)

DAMMIT - this thread moves too fast...

Strawberry Switchblade - makes me want to stab myself. i thought this kind of poppy new wave crap was dead and gone. i mean really, it was one thing for everyone and their dog to try redoing Joy Division, The Smiths, and The Cure, it's a whole other thing to channel freaking Cyndi Lauper. 2/10

^^

Ummm... I guess it's better than a lot of cleshay generic modern rock, but it's still cleshay generic modern rock, and it's definitely not my thing.
6/10?
