Military without enough jobs?

Ok apparently because the economies so horrible people are flocking to the military for jobs; according to my recruiter. Which is believable, however he also claims that because of this jobs in the military are limited. Is this true and does any body have stats from a credible source to back this up. Or is this another technique used by the recruiter to meet his quota?
Another reason why i asked this question is because when i went to MEPS to chose my job they only gave me one option and made it seem as though that was my only option. the problem with that is im not interested in the job.
Im joining the USN and my ship dates in 10months.

i dont have stats but i do know from my experience with jrotc, military recruiters, and friends in the military; that while there are many job opritunities in the military only a few can get the jobs they want (unless you want to be infantry or something).

you have to take the ASVAB test which determines the value of your skills and abilities to the military, if you get a good score, you get greater variety in military job oppritunities . you get a bad one you will probly end up in infantry, combat support , truck driver, etc.

of course the job opportunities are limited. the military is full of people these days. so full, they are not offering enlistment bonuses, they don't need to.

Yes it is true.

I joined the Army in June. I talked to my recruiter about available jobs 3 times; The first time I had 26 available, the next time I had 20, and the last time I only had 4 MOSs available! My ASVAB score is 92!

However, if this wasn't a job you're not interested in, you shouldn't have chosen it and committed 3 or more years to a job you won't like.

The list of available MOSs changes daily. If there are 10 spots open for one MOS today; they may be filled by tomorrow. Or tomorrow a job you want could have some spots open up. Then again it may take months for the MOS you want to open up.

I'm going into the USAF... I dont know what branch your going into but my recruiter has also told me the same thing. This is after I booked a job and all that. So he had no reason to lie to me... but I dont know what branch your in. My recruiter also told me that they now have people take a practice ASVAB to see who they can send down and who they cannot because they are being much more selective... So I'd say your recruiter is not really lying to you...

It's just the way it is across all branches. Recruiters are enjoying the chance to be selective during this time of recession. People are waiting upwards of nine months to ship for Navy boot camp.

@ Additional Details:
Well, shipmate, you should have told them that you would not accept that job and that they would just have to wait until you come back another time to get you a job that you want. It might have taken 2-3 trips, but if you'd have held out, you might have gotten what you wanted. Now you're stuck with a job you don't want on your contract. :(
