military relationship question?

i have been with my girl for about four years going on five years now. me and her have a relationship connection but also a best friend connection. I'm turning 19 soon she is about to go off to college and i will be stationed god knows where. i told her that that we should give each other space while i m gone and while she is focusing on college. we will still talk but when i come back if she has found somebody else then i will move on but if she is still here then it was meant to be, and if she is still around and still feel the same way then we will continue our relationship and probably get engaged. what is your opinion on that . i know i might be busy alot but i will still keep in contact and will send thing to let her know that i still care
