Military families- How often do you hear from deployed soldier?

My boyfriend is probably going to be deployed to Afghanistan in March and I was wondering how often other people got to hear from their significant others? He's a PFC (possibly a SPC soon) and a chaplain's assistant if that matters

My husband was deployed three times to iraq, for the most part he can contact you via email or phone everyday. really the only time he couldnt was if he was on a mission or someone in the unit passed away, they would then go silent for a few days until the family was notified. hope this helps.

I used to call once a week and e-mail twice a week, my first tour.

My second tour, I was not in such a great place mentally, and calling home made it worse, so I only called once a month or so. I still e-mailed several times a week though.

That was Iraq. And that was my mission. Your boyfriend is going to a different country, and has a completely different mission. He will be out on convoys more than I was, certainly, and that can rule out him contacting you at all that day.

The situation is too variable to answer your question. You will hear from him. Just not every day.

If I remember correctly, back in '03 when my hubby was in Iraq, he called about once a week and I received a letter from him several times a week.

Oh yeah, I forgot about email! I got an email from him nearly everyday.

you could hear from him everyday. on camps they have internet and phones.

the british have internet terminals that allow you 30 mins per day use for free or you can pay for other computers with web cams. you also have a phone card that has 20 or 30 mins free per week, but you can pay to top it up with mins.

they only time you'll not hear from him is if he's on the ground out and about or if there is a incident that involves the nationality of your partner so that the relatives can be told before you tell them, it last for 24 to 48 hours and is called op minimise.

Everyday. They have internet and phones and everything over there, so if you dont hear from him and he says he doesnt have any way to contact you, he's lying. Even when I was in Iraq back in 2004 we had internet and phones that we could use everyday. I just got back a few months ago and I couldnt throw a stone without hitting a computer hooked to the internet or a working phone.
