Military Doc's

Is a doc that you have not gone too able to look up your past diagnoses and speak w/your doctors w/out your knowledge or permission?

If not, what can I do to make sure she stops.

I am deployed, a medic, and a doc in my clinic decided to do research on my health background (lupus) cause I cannot be in the sun.

Thanks for serving us! :)

I think military rules might be different, but I would take this to a commanding officer, or someone higher than both of you in the medic arena, and find out quick, so this invasion of privacy be stopped immediately if it is illegal. It seems like it would be.

It's against federal law (HIPAA) for any health provider to share your medical info with any other provider or entity without your signed permission. But, the military is a whole other thing. You'll have to look into whether your right to medical privacy may have been forfeited when you joined???

I'm not real sure. But I think that because it is because of something medically related, (i.e. they are verifying your reason for not being able to be in the sun) they can look into it. Now if they were just doing it to nose into your business then it would be in violation of the privacy laws.

Are you on a profile because of it? They may be questioning the need for a profile, especially in a deployed location where there may be a need for you to be in the sun at times to do your job.
