i have been in delayed entry for almost a year (navy) and have realized that it may not be for me and was wondering is there a way to get out and if so what are the consequenses? and would it be possible to get into army rotc if i did?

they wont tell you this but if you are DEP they have basically zero control over you, if you don't want to go you don't have to, you arnt "theirs" until after you begin training, and even then you can still get out of it,, no consequences ,,, actually the whole idea of the contract is pretty exaggerated

You will be discharged one month after your original shipping date. MEPS will send you a discharge letter.

You would need a waiver to get back in and the way the ecomony looks for the forseeable future I would think twice before deciding not to go. They are not doing waivers anymore because there are so many people enlisting now.

ROTC is not the real Army and you don't need anything to join it.

At least have the decency to let your recruiter know so they can make room for someone that wants to be there.

Just tell your recruiter that you have changed your mind and that you will not ship to Great Lakes. While you are under UCMJ, the cost of prosecuting someone in DEP is just too much work when they could just drop you from the DEP rolls.

I don't know if you'll be able to bolt straight for ROTC afterward. The Navy can withhold your rights for up to a year from the day you signed your DEP contract. After that, it's all up to the ROTC battalion whether or not you'll be allowed in after dumping your commitments to Navy DEP earlier.

Definitely. The military cannot put you in jail for failing to report for shipping for boot camp. They just say that to scare you into following through. Just tell them what you want. The ball is completely in your court. Just make sure you can get in first. Contact rotc and if they can get you in and think you are a fit, they will help you. Good luck!
