Miles per gallon drop

:)...(:

With the weather cooling down here one would assume to get better gas mileage. I have seen just the opposite. My mileage has dropped from about 38 miles to the gal. to 33 miles to the gallon. I have 6200 miles on my 2006 S83 and I am wondering if I have a carb. sync. problem. Airfilters are K&N and were installed less than 3,000 miles ago. I am going to use the same gas pump to validate the amount of fuel that is being put back in the tank is some what accurate. I have seen quite a varriance between gas pumps and stations here. Tire pressure is good and I am pretty steady on throttle application. not a lot of on the throttle and off with highway riding being the majority of my miles.
Just thought I would ask if anyone else has come across a similar situation or might have some good input. Thanks:confused:

Now we're into chemistry and physics theory, so hold on to your thinking caps. Assuming all else is equal, the motorcycle accomodates the increased air density by introducing more fuel, but the mixture stays constant. That basically means that you burn the same amount of fuel per quantity of air, but you can process more of the mixture than before. So, if you maintain just enough throttle opening to accelerate at the rate you previously did, you'll get the same mileage. Most people, however, tend to use the additional power by cranking the throttle as they were before, effectively making more power and using more fuel.

Also factors are wind resistance, which goes up as temps drop, turbulence from additional clothing, lubrication resistance, such as in wheel bearings, tire rolling resistance, and so on.

Actually, I've made an monumentus effort to go slower and ease off, smoother shifts etc. No difference. And there is not enough of a variation in temps here I think to make a difference. What's really weird is I get the Exact same mileage when doing straight highway riding, even with 2 people, and not light people either.

I'm a little late on this one. It looks like your going into the winter months when the gas company's are using oxygenated fuel, that's when your milage goes down the toilet.
