MIDI software for electric keyboard?

hi! i have recently bought a MIDI keyboard (with 61 keys), and i have learned how to use it pretty well, and i wanted to try to connect to my computer. I did buy a USB cable to connect to my laptop. But in the instruction book it says that i have to have "music software"?? does anyone know where i can get free MIDI software online?? thank you =)!
