Mid back pain due to curve in spine

In February, I started going to the chiropractor. When she took x-rays, it was obvious even to me that there is a side-to-side curve in the middle of my back. Any ideas what may have caused this? I'm wondering if there's anything I should be doing besides chiropractic. I'm seeing on webmed.com that this could be caused by osteoarthritis or osteoporosis.

I have been having pain in the middle of my back, especially waking up in the middle of the night and unable to get back to sleep due to the pain. Usually, during the day, I have anything ranging from no pain to a pretty severe ache, depending on what I have been doing. I have been trying to sleep on my back on the chiropractor's advice and have been avoiding side sleeping. If I do sleep on my side, the pain seems to be aggravated.

If you truly have a curve in your spine you should see a spine specialist. Neuro or Ortho for further evaluation and treatment options. They may OK the continued chiro but with a curvature, it is important to treat it properly. It is possible you were born with it and it has gotten worse over the years or missed entirely in your childhood if it were slight at the time.

Would the chiropractor tell me that I needed to see a specialist do you suppose? Or do you think they were just telling me I have a curve to emphasize the importance of chiropractic? I was skeptical of chiropractic but thought I would give them a chance. Maybe it was a bad choice?

That's a loaded question here. Many of us won't go near a chiro with a 10' pole. Then there are others who have found some relief from working iwth them.

You may have a slight curve that he is using to get more business from you. I doubt that they would tell you to see a specialist. More than likely they will tell you that they can work out a plan of treatments that will help take care of this and your pain. What you need to remeraber is that they are not doctors and cannot prescribe meRAB and such. My suggestion would be to go to a good back doctor and find out what is truly wrong. If he suggests a chiro, fine, but my guess is that he won't. You need to see a specialist who can "read" your back and find out the real reasons for your discomfort.

good luck..
