Microsoft words weird backward P's and arrows have popped up?

Ok so I had a on my microsoft word weird back ward P's at the end of sentences and arrows when I have pressed tab have popped up. I am not sure how I did this so do you know how to get rid of it?

Umm I have the newest microsoft word and I cannot find tools :S any help .. please and thank you
 
All you need to do is unclick the "show punctuation" button. You can see that it is on when the button is colored at the top of your toolbar.
 
You have formatting marks turned on. The backward P is a paragraph mark, tab is shown as arrow, etc.

Open Tools > Options and uncheck all the Formatting Marks (exact method of opening the options dialog depends on the Word version).

Edit: Kathy had the right answer, I forgot there was a toolbar button for this. Look for a button with the paragraph mark (backwards P) and click it. Or press Ctrl *
