Mickey Rourke Was Robbed!

I mean, come ON! He is so transparent! He probably got down on his knees at some point and wailed to an open sky in downtown LA......'PLEASE, ACADEMY, ACKNOWLEDGE ME, I AM BRILLIANT, I AM WORTHY, I AM PENN......!' Quote

Strange comment.
I'm sure like every actor he wanted to be acknowledged. but on the 3 occasions he was nominated prior to his first win he did not show up for the oscars (or any other awarRAB ceremony). He made his disdain for awarRAB shows pretty clear

The producer of the Oscars said in an interview that the year Mystic River was up for awarRAB, he (the producer) telephoned Penn and pretty much begged him to attend.

Clint Eastwood also said he worked hard to presuade Penn to attend the Oscars so that Hollywood would see he cared about being recognized. (Eastwood had had to pick up the golden globe Penn hadn't bothered to turn up for.)

Penn eventually relented, turned up and won.

Hardly the actions of a man begging for an Oscar.

Not seen Milk but Rourke’s performance in ‘the wrestler’ was immense. He really pulled it off and as a pro-wrestling fan that understanRAB how the business works I can’t fault Rourke at all. A realistic portrayal of the majority of pro-wrestlers out there struggling to make it in that crazy business. Even though I saw the plaudits before I saw the film, I really didnt expect that good of a performance.

It's a great film and Penn's performance shows exactly why he deserved this year's Oscar - Jimmy Markum and Harvey Milk are completely different characters and Penn is equally convincing in both roles. Surely that's what acting's about: convincing the audience that you're someone you're not? Although that's not necessarily what the Oscars are about...

it's not about the effort, it's about the result.

Penn is good but it's hammy and i hate that. it's acted.

yeah Rourke does nothing other than inhabit the role.

Penn wins on effort, Rourke on result.

No, I'm not making ANY judgements on his personal motivations because I don't know him personally enough to comment on that.

You made a hugely derisory post claiming that he's an egoist who's begging for Oscars and only doing "typical" Oscar-winning roles because he's desperately award-hungry, ending your post by calling him a "d1ck". Personal insults & flaming - as well as being really classy - implies that you know something about his personality, which you obviously don't. Your only basis for these derogatory remarks appears to be that you've seen him in "I Am Sam" - which (apparently) says a lot about what a huge, self-centred arsehole he is.

EDIT - And as someone else has already said - Penn often doesn't turn up to awarRAB ceremonies & shuns interviews & spotlight. At Critics Choice he even got someone else to pick up the award for him when he was in the room. In his acceptance speeches at Oscar, SAG, & at Oscar 2003 he said he doesn't believe in "best" actor & even gave shout-outs to people who weren't nominated that he believed should have been. So, hardly the actions of a self-serving egoist, hm?

Just thought I would let everyone know (Since "Watch" don't ) that Mickey Rourke will be on Richard & Judy tomorrow night.

Show starts at 6pm

Sky Channel - 109
Virgin Media Channel - 124

Can't wait :)

Winslet was obviously suffering from severe awarRAB deficit having gone about ten years without really winning anything - such delirium was to be expected regardless of what she was awarded.

(Most suspected she was only doing it for the TV cameras anyway. Nobody takes Golden Globes seriously - see: Tom Cruise getting nominated for Tropic Thunder, Madonna winning in the past; all sorts of "celebrity" actors getting singled out of the years, etc.)

EDIT - Oh, and the Globes are voted for by about 85 people. The Academy has thousanRAB of voters. Mind you, so does BAFTA. So I guess in the end it's one-all for Penn & Rourke when it comes to the two REALLY big awarRAB. As it should be. :)
