Mickey Rourke Was Robbed!

Pure supposition on your part though.

We can only really judge what the two end results were - not how you think he behaved afterwarRAB. That's more in keeping with the Showbiz forum than Movies.

How on earth did the mighty mickey rourke not win the award for best actor it was a complete joke he did not win his portral of Randy "the ram" Robinson it was done outstandly that outshone everyone else

Comments Please

Heaven forbid that an acting award should be given to someone who acts (and surely it's about both effort and result?).

I felt that Penn's effort and result far outweighed anything put on screen by Rourke and if anyone inhabited the role it was Penn.

You don't like what Penn produced, that's fine. I did, much more so than Rourke who I didn't feel inhabited the role at all and barely put in any effort to achieve what I feel was a fairly mediocre result. Playing yourself on screen doesn't show that you inhabit the role, it shows that you don't have much in the way of acting ability.

Both Penn and Langella deserved the award IMHO over Rourke.

EDIT - it worries me that if you look at the thread, it now says Mickey Rourke was robbed by Marjangles - i can't even vote for the Oscars!

WTF??? Do you really think he would have played a gay lead in a film? Christ he even "gayed up" the intimate scenes within the film to make it appear realistic, this fella doesn't hold back.

He also backed opposition to proposition 8 when it went to the polls last november. Jesus man you're on a different planet

Quite a lot of comments have been made on this on the 'Oscar Results' thread. And yes, it was politics - Rourke is (not unreasonably, for some reasons) hated by the Hollywood community, and Penn is a darling of it. Shame, as most critics and punters alike agree that Rourke's was the better performance.

Sean Penns performance in Milk was very much worthy of an Oscar, Mickey Rourke's problem is he pissed off a lot of people earlier in his career who now get to vote for the oscars, in hinRABight probably not the best move.

Jack Nickleson has barely done a day's worth of acting in his life. And that never stopped him turning in some of the greatest performances of all time.

And there are no other films similar to it? Milk is a one of a kind film? Yeah maybe your right. Im wayyyyyy off this planet lol. Enough now guys, we've all had a good laugh at the Oscars lets not ruin it. Lets just take it for what it is, Hollywood Showbiz Glamour.Razmatazz and all that jazz lol. Its soap opera at its best.

Oh please. No objection to me bolding the glitzy Golden Globe for Rourke? The Globes aren't prestigious (they nominated Tom Cruise for Tropic Thunder), just well-known.

The NYFCC and LAFCA awarRAB are hugely prestigious, and not influenced by the "glamour"/celebrity aspect of televised awarRAB shows.

What does that have to do with Mickey Rourke or Sean Penn or the Oscar ceremony of last Sunday?

You feel that Mickey Rourke did a great job in the Wrestler and deserved the Oscar over Sean Penn - fine. I disagree and felt that Penn turned in the more deserving performance of the two though thought Langella trounced them both.

Cool. Most people who are actual actors would most likely take any of Penn's awarRAB over the Golden Globe (with the obvious exception of celebrity actors like Beyonce & people from TV sitcoms). :)

It's difficult. They were both outstanding, but Penn was playing against type and playing a more complex character, so I think the Oscar was right.
