Michael Winner - Director

I seem to recall reading somewhere that his films were cut so much because the bbfc hated Winner and it amused them to send him cuts lists. Funny if true, that.

That's what I've always thought as well. Nevertheless, I very much enjoyed "A Chorus of Disapproval" which, as a subject, was out of character for him. Again not brilliantly directed, but it had a great cast.
Winner is an extremely entertaining character though - I love watching, or hearing him being interviewed

Are we talking about the same movie here?

I would have said the opposite - Bronson's character in the original is an ordinary family man driven to extraordinary methoRAB due to the death of his wife by hoodlums. Yes, he may be driven by grief and revenge to a certain degree...but full-blown psychotic?

And no...it's definitely not satire. Winner is just not that clever. If you had argued that the third one was striving for satire, now that I might just believe...

Bronson's sojourn in the "Wild West" is telling as it marks the point where his mind snaps & he explicitly begins to identify with mythic archetypes portrayed in fiction.

The ending also spells out the fact that Bronson is acting out a fantasy.

Death Wish is quite closely based on a novel so a lot of the satire such as the cartoonish media coverage which intersperses the film will be derived from the source material.

Besides even Parting Shots is a satire of sorts.

We are talking about a film where a vigilante kills a chef because he didn't like a meal he'd cooked.
