Mice?

Not that I know about any mice for the palm, but just curious - why would you need or want one? This is a perplexing request..

Before bluetooth was around, the ability of connecting cables was a big issue, especially for users who wanted to connect barcode scanners. One of the biggest problems associated with connecting devices is that there is not enough power flowing from the cradle connector to supply power to the attached peripherals. When I used my old Palm III, there was a modem I could snap onto it. However, the modem had it's own battery installed.

If you really want to use a mouse, keyboard, barcode scanner, etc, you will probably need to find one with wireless capabilities such as bluetooth. I don't know if bluetooth mice exists or not, but keyboards and barcode scanners are in the market.

Bluetooth mice certainly exist, but it's a case of whether there is a driver for it. I don't know of a bluetooth mouse driver for Palm, it would probably require developing I'm afraid :(
Theoretically it's possible, but you have to think there would then need to be a mouse pointer integrated into the operating system etc. You'd probably have more luck with pocket pcs...

:p hehe.
All I can say is that's what I thought, until I tried one.... I know you've had pocket pcs in the past, but IMHO PPC's have become more stable and Palm have become less so.
I've never had one hard-reset on my hp4150, but I've had 10's on my Palm. Maybe that's due to all the stuff I beta test though..!

The hard reset issue is also tied to the fact that MS dicatates the drivers and hardware configurations ala "closed" software compared to the Palm OS which is more open. If all of the hardware coming out of the various Palm suppliers was as controlled as the hardware for a PPC then you wouldn't have the same software issues.

What used to be the most attractive thing to the Palm OS was it's simplicity and ease of programing may eventually become it's downfall since the split between PalmOne and Palmsource occured.

The eventual release of OS6 or cobalt will complicate the process even more.

That being said, I still think that the Palm OS in combination with a smartphone (Treo or similar platform) will outsell a true Windows Smartphone based piece of hardware but that's my HO.

Back on topic: You won't find a BT mouse that will work with a serial Palm interface since BT came out after Palm migrated to the UC connector......a serial mouse connection to the Palm serial port was never available (at least if memory serves) either since the tap interface wouldn't benefit from slowing down to be read by the serial interface.

There is a program called PDA Reach from JuneFabrics that allows you to control your PDA (Palm OS) from your desktop. They make it for the Treo series and some other OS5 devices but I don't think it was ever configured to work on a serial based connection. It's always been USB.

You can find it at www.junefabrics.com.
