Miami Vice 2006

I have just watched the trailer for the new Miami Vice and I love the theme.

Has anyone any idea who it is from as I know the original is:

Jan Hammer

There was no chemistry or character development because they were undercover cops, it was supposed to show that you dont know these guys, dialogue between the farrell and foxx was little because they didnt need to say a lot to each other.

I thought it was a superb film. There was originally a 10 minute intro to the film where you slightly got to know the characters but was cut for above reasons.

I'm not sure if there is more than one trailer out for this but if you mean the song from this trailer I think it's Numb/Encore from the Jay-Z & Linkin Park Collaboration - Collision Course.

Here's the link to a sample on the amazon.com website.

I think Miami Vice is the worst film I have seen all year. Considering Crockett and Tubbs are meant to be bestest buRAB, there's absolutely no chemistry between Foxx and Farrell. Although they were undercover, they were still acting as partners in the drug running business and all the people they were dealing with knew that, so there's no reason for them not to act matey. What's really inexcusable though is that two of the films central plot points make no sense whatsoever !

Why on earth would Gong Li's character go for Crockett? He's not especially attractive in the film (and what's with 'tache?), it's not as if his money would turn her on, so what was in it for her? Initially it seemed she was using him to feel out his intentions, but why continue it? Surely rule number one of organised crime, particularly when you're near the top of the tree, is don't get involved with low-level grunts who could easily f*ck you over. Rule number two - if you insist on breaking rule number one, whatever you do, don't flaunt your relationship in a club owned by your husband that just happens to be managed by someone else very high up in the organisation !

The other thing never explained was who actually was the mole? This was the entire basis of the film and it was totally forgotten in favour of flashy edits and different types of film stock. When Tubbs told the FBI (?) guy to leak to tell the FBI the drop was Monday, Customs Tuesday, CIA Wednesday etc, I though this is how they're going to spring the trap, but no. A friend who saw it with me reckons there were Crockett flashback scenes that also never went anywhere. I don't remember these; maybe I blinked at that point or something.

The whole exercise was nothing more than a two-hour TV episode, only not as good. You'd be better off watching series one on DVD.

I too was disappointed. I have never seen a film that just starts in the middle of a scene like that did. It was like the projectionist had cut out the first few minutes or something. I dont like it when films have no intro. It didnt even show the title at the start. You keep waiting for a start credit and it never arrives.

Such a rubbish film. The TV show was MUCH better. I'm really surprised at Micheal Mann. It looked like it had been directed by somone who'd never even seen an episode of the original TV show. The 'police go undercover with drugs baron/nails drugs barons girl' is a plot we've seen a million times.

They wasted a huge opportunity to update the legacy of the TV show and bring it into 2006 with noRAB along the way to the original. I expected loaRAB of car chases, sexy ladies, flashy clothes and watches, big gun fights, speedboats, plane/helicopter action and then some moody night shots of the guys driving their Ferrari through Miami with 'In the Air Tonight' on the stereo.

There were elements of all the above in the film, but not very much and those that did appear were fairly poorly executed. The script was disjointed and slow, the motivations of the characters seemed illogical and the whole thing didn't make much sense and what was going on with Farrell's facial hair? Even Don Johnson managed to look way cooler, and that was in 1985!!!

Avoid, the trailer looks amazing but the film is total tripe.

I cant wait for this film to be released in August and I think it will be the dark horse of the summer blockbusters!

I think Miami Vice will do well. The Avengers is a disaster but look at who directed it, Jeremiah S. Chechik (who?). With Michael Mann behind Miami Vice it will probably fair much better.

At least Miami vice is directed and produced by the two people who brought the original series to life in the mid 1980's. Michael man has a habit of remaking his own Projects. LA Take-down starring CSI's William peterson was remade as Heat with Pacino and Deniro. Good Film. Micheal Manns films have always been good ion my opinon and i think this will do well. I must admit I wasnt keen on the idea of Colin farrell at first but on watching the Trailer he looks the part Sonny Crockett. A fair homage to Don Johnston. I hope this does well. looking forward to it.

I was frustrated by the whole mole thing as well. At the end of the day it was all about Gong Li and Crockett, and Tubbs and his missus and how your comittment to a (dangerous) job interferes with your personal life. It's a common Mann theme as seen in Heat and Manhunter - the male machismo challenged by affairs of the heart.
I still liked the film though - it looked great and everyone was hard as nails!
Li's character to me was simply trying to get away from her murderous suspicious boyfriend. To her Crockett was a crim but not a jealous psycho with it which is fair enough. it's pretty much the same plot they had every other episode in the TV show only here it was smothered in oddles of realistic procedural dialogue and hi-tech gubbins to bring it into the 21st century.

I think you're thinking of "To Live And Die In LA" which was a William Friedkin movie with William Peterson in it - he was not in LA Takedown. I haven't seen it myself but it has the likes of Micheal Rooker and Xander Berkeley in it.

As for Miami Vice I was glad to see Michael Mann directing it but a little concerned about Colin Farrell...have to wait and see I guess.

Your Correct my mistake I'm confusing the Two films. Sorry. I think my train of thought was with Micheal manns other film 'manhunter' with William Peterson. :)

Can anyone help me with a question.

Does this film take over where the series ended, and if it does, did Crocket and Tubbs die. I never got to see the last episode

Think this is a valid point.

It sucked.

I don't think I've ever seen such a film that had me thinking "WTF?" the whole way through.

Okay, I understood the main storyline, drugs bust goes wrong, because of a mole, so the two guys infiltrate the drugs gang involved, and try to find out where the leak came from, right?

But from that, I didn't know what was happening, so many scenes had terrible speech. As far as I could think of why, it was because of an overuse of slang..

It'd be great if someone could explain the ending. Although, it was quite predictable.
