I dont see anything special in Mars Volta and I just brought them up because they seem so heralded around here. I think that you need to spend more time with Oracular Spectacular and also pay attention to the lyrics and give them some thought. Its pretty obvious that it is a themed album and not particularly who they are. I think MGMT is capable of some wild and amazing music outside of this, thats what is so captivating. Its the songwriting.

I will check out Giraffes tonight

oh and I downloaded Battles last summer and they failed to snag me. I might give them another try. It was the album with the mirrors right?

FtM and Amputechture sound nothing like DitC or tBiG.


However tBiG and DitC so sound a little similar.

for some reason i'd sooner compare MGMT to Death From Above 1979 than to the mars volta. probably because of the heavy use of the synth. something like, "MGMT is a lighter and more whimsical Death From Above"
