MetrO Difficulties

I just downloaded the new Metro (MetrO Palm OS 5.8.8) to my TX and the menus and the pop-ups are in another language - I've got no idea which. I didn't see any way to select a language before downloading - was I supposed to? Is there a way to change it to English? The information is in English, though.

Also - in the log I received the following message

Invalid handheld file deleted: C:\Palm\feterms\Install\NewYork-works.pdb
and the same for Paris.

Is there a way to correct this or do I need to uninstall and re-install?

I did delete it not so much because of the language but because I thought that it was a real map.
Do you know an app that is freeware for the TX that is a map of NY or different US cities? Bus maps are ok too. I did a search and I don't see anything that's right. Also - not one that needs WiFi to be used.

Ah, OK. Nope indeed, Metr? is not map-based. It's list-based. AFAIK, there is not an app that kinda-Google Maps can give you routes on sub or bus. But then some, maybe Google Maps itself, haha! As for unconnected applications (this is those that don't depend on data flowing constantly through a network connection), nope, haven't found any. BTW, is there not an app for Google Maps for the Palm TX?

I still haven't found anything like you're looking for. But, I know a little set of options that do fairly work. Like:

PalmPDF, and the habit of dropping many documents that I need as ready reference on the street, to pdf. As this pdf viewer has a potent rendering engine, I have used it to follow maps, like those of the subway network.

GrxView Lite: very simple yet effective graphics viewer. As it has a good image resizing capability, I use it with documents that I drop for it on .jpeg format. Such as maps, personal notes scanned to image, etc.^2.

In both cases my side of working out the solution is first the habit, and second assigning specific folders on the external card to keep all my information easy to find.

There are many map oriented applications, but those that are freeware are pointless to use for most of it, cause they demand too much job on your behalf to be practical, or they are so old that the solution approach is obsolete. And those that are payware are sometimes dependant on network connection. A good point in between could be MapViewer. Haven't tried it myself but it looks promising. It's payware but not quite pricy.
 
Thanks a lot hal. I figured it was a 'subway' app; but didn't see a Palm section linked to the main page I found, which was more like a blog.
 
Yeah, it's more like a blog than an apps distribution site. Not very clear IMO. I am not very familiar with all the site cause I am subscribed to their mailing lists and I receive the updates of my interest in my inbox, with links that get you straight to a download, so I seldom visit :)

I had never seen that app, Pirate. Sadly, it is still yet to cover the cities of my interest. Otherwise, the features and the price are a no-brainer.
