I am presently studying journalism and my present assignment includes a question on methods of text representation. I have to discuss some of the methods and illustrate my answers with examples. I have some complex coursework literature that discusses Samuel Beckett's work "Stirrings Still" that was written in both French and English, and goes on to say how the transcriptions of these documents are preserved somewhere in Reading, encoded in TEI- compliant XML. It then goes on to say that, depending on the user's focus, the draft material can be arranged in different ways: 1. Documentary approach, based on the catalogue number; 2. chronological order; 3. per language, 4. with a focus on translation; 5. in retrograde direction, starting from the published texts.

I actually thought that I was reasonably bright and doing very well with the coursework until I got to this; so please if there is anyone out there who can help and prevent me from dropping off to sleep, I'd be very grateful - in laymen's terms, please!

Thank you.
