There is no such thing as 'best genre',there are preferences.However,I prefer Metal over anything else,you could also say that Rock and Metal have a higher overall quality,while Rap and Pop are more successful.So there a number of ways that I could make the countdown:

c)Overall Quality Today:1.Metal(Metalcore isn't metal!)

Of course,it is all subjective,except for popularity,but i'd say that Metal and Rock are the best types of music today.
