Just checked out Echoes of Eternity, not neccessarily metal but has a very decent sound to it, I like it quite a bit and the chick singer has a sexy ass voice.

Try Sonata Arctica. Good band from Finland.

also, bigman, a lot of the best metal banRAB do use the "indecipherable grunt" as you so generously put it. singing isnt just about melody, it's about using the voice as an instrument. you wouldn't want your metal to use only undistorted guitars, would you? for the third time on OT since i was approved 2 days ago, i'm going to recommend Opeth. they are the best band out there and they use both "clean" vocals and death metal.
