mercury vapor outside light going off?

We have a mercury vapor outside light that keeps cutting on and off at night. We have already replaced the eye on the top and the bulb and it is still cutting off. What is causing this?

Before you purchase a new ballast, check the price of a new fixture. In my area they are about 20.00 cheaper than the ballast
 
Unfortunately for you the ballast is beginning to go bad. That have a thermal protection on them. When the ballast begins to break down, it heats excessively, causing it to cycle on and off.
