My husband has just dropped an old mercury thermometer in th kitchen, there is an funny smell and I can 'taste it in my throat. Is it dangerous?

Thanks every one, not paranoia Remmy, there is definitely a smell and taste in my mouth, however I agree mercury has no smell. Must have been something else in the thermometer. Not an ordinary health taking temperature thermometer but a Difference thermometer. Certainly more mercury in that than the single finger type.
Have opened doors etc.,
