Mercedes 500ML vs Toyota Prius - repair costs?

My hubby wants to get a 2005 Mercedes 500ML and I want to buy a 2007 Toyota Prius Hybrid.

He's telling me that any repair costs for a Prius hybrid would be just as expensive as it would be for the Mercedes 500ML.

Is this true? He thinks the Mercedes is a better buy than the Toyota, because we all know that Mercedes are very good vehicles.

What do you think?

First, my comments assume both cars were maintained well. Second, it depends on how long you keep the car. For example, I wouldn't want to pay to replace the batteries on the Prius Hybrid. Next I'd ask does either car have a "timing belt" (not timing chain), that has to be replaced at regular intervals? I prefer a car with a timing chain (no maintenance other than changing the engine oil regularly). Next, I'd consider crash and safety protection. Which car would you feel safer in? (I'd have to guess the Mercedes). Hopefully the Mercedes was a one owner car that has all it's repair records in the glove compartment. I like Toyota, but in this case I'd rather have a 2010 updated Prius with newer battery technology. Finally, can you picture a Prius doing 130 mph on the AutoBahn in Germany? No problem with the Mercedes. They're definitely two completely different cars engineered for different requirements.
