My understanding is that many men feel it should be their right to alert the mother early on to say that they don't intend to be a parent to the child and will not help raise it or fund it, so that the mother can use this information while making her decision of weather or not she will keep the pregnancy to term. This is also supposed to be beneficial to the woman, as she will not have to find this out long after the baby is born, when she is trying to get court orders for child support (that is often never paid), wile raising the kid by herself.
I also wonder how anyone can expect this idea to go anywhere when most women don't have real access to abortion either way. The whole idea seems to be based on her already having a choice, and real access to the abortion if she decides she is not prepared to care for the baby alone. Shouldn't those fighting for paternal abortion/ financial abortion, spend a lot of time fighting for regular abortion, so their fight for financial abortion can be considered a more realistic option?
