...undressing in front of others? Hey,

After much debate and procrastination, I've just joined a gym a couple of days ago, and I'll be going for my first session/induction this thursday afternoon.

Although it's a pretty nice gym, it's also very small, and as a result it has -really- tiny locker/shower rooms. It's literally just a 9x9 foot square room with a bench around the walls, and an open plan shower room about half that size with 6 shower heads around the walls, so there is absolutely no privacy at all.

I have no idea why, but I've always been insanely self concious about undressing in front of others, to the point where I don't even like being seen topless, not even by family.
However since this gym is quite a distance from home (at least an hours walk, or about 30 mins on the bus) I'm pretty sure I'll need to shower after each session.

Frankly, this thought terrifies me.

Although I'm now 22, I've always managed to avoid either undressing or showering in public. I've not even been swimming for years because of these stupid little issues.

I honestly don't know where this fear has come from, since I'm in pretty good shape, and my body is definitely nothing out of the ordinary (apart from a bit of chest hair XP ). I just get some kinda crushing sense of dread whenever I have to so much as take off my shirt in front of anyone.

Sooo yeah, I really want to get over this fear, and I want to force myself to actually use the showers at the gym, but I don't really know how to ease myself into it, especially since the gym seems almost permanently busy, so there's not really a quiet time to change/shower there.

Anyone got any tips?

Thanks a lot!
