Memory from child hood (I'm not a crack pot, hear me out)?

I hear storied from my grandmother, she used to tell me about things I would do when I was small. She told me I'd often be seen staring out at the trees or talking to these beings she or anyone couldn't see. I called them ingies (sp?) i'm not sure if thats the correct spelling for it but when she asked me what they looked like I would respond "they had big black eyes." I'm older now and do somewhat recall seeing big black eyes in my child hood and am overcome with a feeling I can not explain. I'm not crazy and I have a hard time believing what I saw was true. Could some one provide me information about these encounters because latley they have been in my dreams
