Memoirs of a Geisha

Ziyi Zhang is fantastic in Memoirs of a Geisha, she is talented and beautiful, she fits perfectly into a movie of georgeous, dazzling and enchanting visuals. The acting was superb as was the direction, cinematography and story. It was just breathtaking...

I don't particularly care if Ziyi Zhang is Chinese or Japanese, she was excellent in this movie and every movie she has been in and she proved more than worthy for the role. If you are doubting her talent, go see House of Flying Daggers as well as Geisha and you'll soon realise.

I think it is. All about recessive genes and stuff i'd imagine.

Reading the book at the moment (brilliant book) and am desprate to see the film.

I finally went to see this movie yesterday.

Having read mixed reviews I hadn't muhc expectations, but I loved the book so I went along anyway.

It was so muhc better than I thought it would be, I agree with earlier posters who said that it would have been better in Japanese with subtitles.

The cinematogrpahy is stunning, there is one scene shwere she does this amazing dance and snow falls, it is a joy to watch.

I thought Gong Li, was excellent too, and Michelle Yeogh, they were the stand out performances for me.

Overall well worth seeing, the ending is a bit weak but I would recommend it.

Yes its possible for all races to have light eyes. Buy in Memoirs of a Geisha she wears grey contacts (custom and cosmetic)

I heard that this film will banned in China as they dont want chinese actress playing japanese role. They have also banned Brokeback Mountain for being "too gay"

My sister dragged me along to see it for her birthday as she'd read the book & thought it was fantastic.
The acting was good, when we actually got to that part the scenery stunning but imo the story-line too long, plodding & boring.
They spent much too much time setting the scene of her childhood in the Geisha house! Yawn, yawn, yes we got the message; it was hard, she worked like a dog & it rained all the time . ( I got my PDA out & started playing solitaire when this seemed to go on for an age - I can multi-task & needed some stimulation to stop me falling asleep).
The middle section where she actually becomes a Geisha was the best bit; beautiful costumes, wigs & women, we were actually allowed to see some Japanese scenery in the summer too.
I'll try the book & see if sis' was right; she said it was better.
