melotti fender eliminator

I purchased mine off ebay and just got in the mail today and it did not come with any directions. Gnance was talking me through the install, I also found this on "Motivation Accessories" website, who also sells them......

"You will have to remove the tail section as the kit mounts with screws from under the rear cowl. You will also need to remove the small screw that hold the two slipons together so you can insert the bracket. Relatively easy install with minimal tools required. One screw on the kit also detaches the license plate holder when not required during track use"

So apparantly install is going to a bit of a pain in the A..! But hope I can get it done without actually removing my exhaust!

you need to take off the mufflers in order to remove the bracket that the fender hangs from. The bracket is attached by 4 screws from the bottom. The melotti attaches to this bracket, but it attaches from the top of it, not the bottom like most kits. You DON'T need to remove the tail to put the fender eliminator on. You probably WILL need to remove the tail if you choose to hook up the optional license plate light or if you attach the turn signals. You will need access to the wiring under the tail fairing. Doesn't take too long, unless you do the lights.

yellow arrows are where the melotti screws into the bracket you take off the bike from the top. Be sure you remove those little metal tabs that I showed earlier to be able to screw it in.

yellow arrows are the 4 screws that hold on the bracket. On the 1198 at least, you remove these from the bottom.

Blue arrows are the screws that hold the muffler straps on.

I don't think you can do this without taking the mufflers off.

Well I got mine installed today, Although the wire included with the led plate light was only about 3 inches, (Melotti S.P. hey if you read this maybe throw us a bone and give us at least enough to work with!!!! is wire really that expensive? I mean maybe instead of charging almost $200 you could charge $220 and give me 8 more inches of wire!!!) So I cut and spliced my oem plate light, so I could use the quick disconnect, it still wasn't long enough to reach the connect under the bike by threading it up through the fender eliminator, and yes I did pull the wire under the seat as far as it would go, so of to home depot for the second time, (the first was to get crimping plyers and wire splices) to buy more wire. I get home, and add the additional wire and go to hook it up and the f....ing melotti's wire is so fine that it pulls out of the crimped splices so after several tries I am out of crimped splices (and yes I used the smallest ones) So I finally say f... it and now am the proud owner of a melotti fender eliminator with out a freaking led plate light!!! woohooo!!!

Maybe later if I am really bored and need to get out of the house, I will pick up some more splicers and try again, but for now I think I am just going to have a "Stella" Oh and Gnance you are right, there is no way you could install it with out taking off the exhaust slipons!!!

I agree I the wire sucks, I had the same problems. Ended up splicing the melotti wire to another wire I had, then to the stock plug to achieve the proper length. I did not use the quick disconnect, just used the butt connectors, and had to redo it a couple of times (first time I had the wires mixed up and no light at all). It also pulled out once. I finally got it by crimping the hell out of the splicer and electrical tape is your friend for added security. Trust me my wire from the light is hell of short now, but it works.

Looks like good quality but damn, I cant stand seeing the plate out back. Plates go up and tilted by the rear shock like the Good Lord intended.
