Hey, all I wanted to get some concrete eveidence as to some of what i am dealing with. I went to my Rheumy today and i haven't a name yet but possibly Osteoarthrits of the spine but still trying to figure out if this is the cause of the nerve pain and am being referred to a speicalist at a local University. He drew me a picture and showed me how there is the whatever(forgot ugh) that the discs sit between and theres things that come of of this(maybe someone can help me out here?) Anyway this thing possibily developed at birth fused with the sacrum and then theres like a break in it? It's still all new to me yet but getting there. He prescribed me an arthritis med today to see if i can do things and not have pain! I think i can deal with the aspect of this but it's the nerve pain ect that scaring me right now as i am getting indents in my big toes , pain muscle spasms and so on. I also fell this past Monday and he had me go right down the hall and get an exray as i am having a great deal of pain in the front and side tibia area and cannot lift my foot upward. If this all comes back okay it must be nerve related also. Also he said something to confirm possibly Osteoarthrits in the other area mentioned but would have to do an exray of the back! Yeah i feel i finally getting somewhere! I should get a call is i messed my tibia area up soon! Also still waiting for schedule of another EMG and sorry to say but i pray to god they find something to end this suffering!
Take care, Melissa

Monkey, I pray that they are finally on to something and soon you will have a proper diagnosis so that you can receive the correct treatment. I will be praying for you. God Bless!!

Monkey, do you think he is talking about your facet joints? Remeraber you and I both have the transitional verterbrae? It is very likely you could have the same thing I did. When they opened me up they found the facet joint totally arthritic bone on bone and inflammed. I hope and pray for you that they are on to something here.

My discs are fine, no real damage there but I still had fusion due to the facet joint. I do believe they cleaned that all out of there. The facet is in the back of the discs.

Technically osteoarthritis only stanRAB for bone-arthritis, not a real technical term that you are looking for. The arthritis meRAB didnt work for me even though I had that facet joint problem, so dont get discouraged if they dont help, but I hope that they do!

The nerve pain may not be resolved until they come up with the answer. I forget, have you tried the lyrica? neurontin?

Thank GOD they got you referred to University, its about time! Remeraber, keep on these guys about your transitional vertebra. I really think that has something to do with it. My doc was very curious about going in there to look around at the transitional stuff and my facet arthritis did not really show on xray or mri, so dont be discourage by that either.

I will be thinking of you and hoping for quick answers!

Jen, i believe it is the facet joints they are the ones that come down like a wing pointing down on each side of the spine off of the things outside of the discs because you have the one things and then the discs between and then i believe these facets point away and down like wings lol. Anyway is there treatment for this you said? The Rheumy hasn't gotten to that point to tell me if it is or at least he stated he wasn't sure if there was? What would i type in to find out would it be transitional vertabrea? And if this is the same as you wich i believe what is the area across the fused part again called if you know i forgot to write that down. As where he showed me it fused it has a line across in the picture showing where it would cause the arthritis? Basically yes the picture he drew me was bone on bone with a like crack in it or whatnot. And yes the picture he drew me was showing the facets in the back side. Sorry if i'm running on but thinking as i go and reading your post. How long should i try the arthritis meRAB you think? I see him back in a month i can't imagine it taking that long ugh. Also my Dr. gave me Neurotin but when i took it i couldn't even function so layed low on that one unless i need it again really bad and it seems like i am on so many frickin meRAB it's crazy. I am on thyroid meRAB, the arthritis now Vicodin as needed , clonopin and an antibiotic for sinus infection. I think one i am done with that i will try the Neurotin again and skip the vicodin . the only thing about the Neurotin is it may give me temporary relief but it's not helping with my toes/ foot deforming and i'm not sure if this is due to a nerve thing or not, maybe someone here know if this is normal course to happen with a nerve pnching and your foot looking deformed? I am thinking this is because when i walk i get the nerve pain and it curls my toes under da not know. With your transitional vertabrea did it cause nerve pain , leg weakness ect? That would be some good info?
Take care, Melissa(thanks for all the prayers spineys)

Jen, this is what i posted a long time ago is yes what we talked about with our cases being similiar or the same possibly and it's what my MRI report stated so could i be a good candidate for having this done corticosteroid injection of the disk above the transitional vertebra or the transverse-sacral articulation and, for very rare cases, surgical fusion or a resection of the articulating transitional transverse process can be performed ? And is this what you had done for this?I also found this is what the Dr. was saying but couldn't word it until i looked this up , The last lurabar vertebra can be fused on one side to either the first sacral vertebra, or its process (“wing”) can bridge over to near the top of the ilium wich in the picture is what i was trying to describe whew lots of info i'm learning! Also form the iste i found this on it can effect nerves and such if i'm right, but how do they know this is happeing and the cause from the TV

Jen, i was running across a few old post while i have a minute.! With this transitional vertabrea, i forgot did you find out it was causing nerve pain nurabness ect? I forgot if you have had those issues as well and i believe you did as if i remeraber right you had surgery? I skimmed through a few articles and i am confused as if this can or cannot cause theses issues as some states it can and can't and depenRAB!!I hope things are better for you?
Love, Monkey
