Wow, can't believe there's a thread for this couple! I saw the movie last year (lol), I loved it! I had a thing against Reese at first (unfairly because she was married to Ryan Phillipe, *sigh*) but after Legally Blonde, SHA, and then I saw Election a couple of weeks ago--she rocks! And they do have great chemistry! I liked Mel with her NY bf (I forget his name), but I was so glad she made up with Jake--then they had a baby! Aww...

I saw this movie a long time ago and loved it. Melanie and Jake made such a great couple and I'm glad that she ended up with him in the end and not Andrew. My favorite scene was when she first comes back to Alabama and goes to his house and they are arguing. They were so cute together.

In the alternate ending, when Jake and Melanie kiss on the beach during the storm at the very end...it looks like and is implied that they might be struck by lightening. The scene then cuts to the reception in a big tent of the wedding that never happened--Jake walks in and is carrying Melanie's body and it looks like she is dead. But as Jake is telling everyone that Melanie is dead, she sits up and everyone realizes that it is a big prank, for old time's sake! Hope that helps!

i love this movie so much i have the DVD and i can't even count how many times i've watched it.
i love when they first reunite. "Jake! The only reason you won't sign these papers is because I want you to!" "Wrong! The only reason i ain't signin' is cause you've turned into some hoity toity Yankee b*tch, and i'd like nothing more right now than to piss you off!" :lmao: man i love that scene.
and of course the cemetary scene. it was perfect.
