Oh Mommev I am so sorry. I would look into whatever outlet you can to see if you can qualify for any type of disability payment. I am getting to a point where I am having an extremely difficult time working, and do not know how I can bear it too much longer. I am dreading tomorrow big time. Today was another day where I felt the need to go to the ER. I can't go on disability now, because I will not have a surgery date until I see the surgeon Dec. 2, and I know I will need all 12 weeks once I have the surgery. I also have no clue how this happened to me, I just noticed bad pain one day last spring when I was working in my garden. I was crouched down, and when I stood up I nearly threw up from the pain. It has been there ever since.
My spirits have been down in the dumps over the last couple of months, so this weekend I put my Christmas stuff out:D Well, everything accept the tree and the garland for the banister. I know it is early, but let me tell you, it has really lifted my spirits. Plus tonight when I was driving home from my parents house I noticed a lot of Christmas lights on, so I don't feel too crazy I guess. Try it!

Hey Megss, I'm hoping mine doesn't lead to surgery but everything has been sounding exactly like yours so I'm afriad that's where I'm heading does and you've been asking the right things and getting great responses, so thanks, you've been helping me out. I know what you mean with the driving. I just went out today and bought this certain pillow to use for driving and sitting on because my right side is so painful. I'm also worried about my job, I e-mailed my boss (who's families known my family since we were kiRAB), and let her know that I saw my doctor who put me on a lifting restriction and she said she would have to discuss it with her mom and get back to me. (Her mom handles the payroll and insurance which none of us take there because there is a whole 4 employees in the Day Care I work at and it would cost a fortune). I'm scared their going to let me go till all this is over-I can't do that-we can't afford it on just my husband's salary either, I don't know what we're going to do if I'm off for the surgery....Does anyone know, can they let me go cause I got put on restrictions cause of Spondy?

Megss, this is just too funny...I also put my Christmas stuff out too this weekend because I'm afraid the pain is just going to worsen each week and I'm just not going to want to do it. My husband also went to get my parents tree we were going to use this year so I could start putting ornaments on that little by little, but when he got everything out, turns out it was only the branches-mom and dad forgot to give him the stand with the trunk. I also was looking into my husband's disability insur.(I hadn't fully told my husband right out that I may be out of work right now-or he wasn't getting it from what I was saying about my boss's emails) and when he asked me what I was doing I told him, he told me he doesn't have disability insurance at all! When it clicked that I may be out of work if my boss lets me go for the time being, he got very upset and seemed mad at me-I think he was just frustrated at the situation cause we need both our incomes to make it, but this is out of my hanRAB, then he said something about getting another job-is he kidding??? With my pain and limitations and possible surgery coming up-yeah, that's going to happen-I don't think he was thinking clearly! My boss talks to her mom tonight so when I go in tomorrow(Tues), I should find out if I am able to stay at my job or not. I'll keep you posted....

Mommev-

I don't believe that, by law, they can let you go. It is also a law that they have to give you up to 12 weeks off for disability. They don't necessarily have to pay you, but they do have to let you keep your benefits (although that part doesn't matter to you). I am blessed that my company will pay me. At my last job, I took 12 weeks off for maternity leave, and was not paid a dime. I did have a plan through Aflac, but it only paid me about 1/2 of my salary, and it cost me over $60/ month to have that. I kept my benefits while I was gone, but owed the company over $750 for them once I returned to work. Since they weren't paying me, the also weren't deducting anything for my benefits. As soon as I returned to work (early Deceraber...Christmas time), they laid me off with no severance and confiscating the money I owed them for benefits from my last paycheck! LOL! It wasn't funny at the time though, let me tell you.
It is sad the way things are run in the country, in my opinion.
I hope you don't wind up needing surgery, but in all honesty, surgery is the only thing that will fix the spondy. You can try different things for pain management, but nothing has really worked for me.

Yes, keep me posted!
My husband is not very helpful. He never has been, and expects me to work full time, be a full time house wife (maid and cook), and do the majority of the house work. I have also always been in charge of bills, shopping, and all yard work accept for mowing. He has not stepped up at all to help me. We have been fighting a lot lately. I can't count on him once I have my surgery. It is very stressfull and makes me very unhappy.
I don't think anyone truely understanRAB how painful it is until they experience it.

Merry Christmas Megss.......Good for you..I did the same thing last year because I knew I had upcoming surgery..It felt good to be able to do a little something to make things look nice...It made all the difference...'cause you do get very depressed when facing that intolerable pain..It' s exhausting....I hardly wanted to dress nicely or blow dry my hair..I just didn't care.

I'm much better now after fusion (1 level) surgery but I'm witnessing my 79 yr old mother going the same thing with a herniated disk...Even though she's in so much pain, she's very restless and can't sit still...I remeraber it well.

Again all the best and enjoy your decorations...

Keep us posted;):angel::angel:

Hey Laf!

I know, I really needed some Christmas Cheer! I know EXACTLY what you mean about not wanting to get dressed. No clue how I will Christmas shop this year. I will do as much as I can online, and my mother in law has said she will do some for me. It's sad because I really enjoy Christmas shopping. It's part of the fun of the Holidays. Going grocery shopping is even too painful, and that is SO depressing. For Thanksgiving this year all I have to do is make the turkey and stuffing, which are both easy. That is a relief. I have a 14 month old who neeRAB me and depenRAB on me. She is the main reason why I am not putting off surgery any longer.
I am glad you feel better after yours. I believe I will too. I NEED to. I am pretty sure mine will also be a one level fusion, although I am not meeting with the surgeon until Dec 2nd so I really don't know forsure what he plans to do. Merry Christmas to you as well!

Mommev38.....Is your injury a work related injury? Mine was and I was fired....I was a Route Rep for a medical company and had a no fault accident....they fired me....not to scare you but just giving you an insight....everyone will say they cant fire you once injured at work but they are all wrong....it is the law but its full of loop holes...I hope you get better.

Best wishes!

Mommev:

The Family Medical Leave Act in the U.S. is only for employers that have at least 50 employees. FMLA law requires the person's job be held for 12 weeks (any 12 weeks in any one year). However, at smaller employers FMLA does not apply. They can release you at any time - but must follow any published HR or Benefit guidelines they may have.

The restrictions post- surgery will be permanent, you'll want to avoid work that requires recurrent lifting, bending, twisting, etc.

Hey Megss, Well, I'm still at my job at the day care center(for now), but she has me working afternoons only(12:30-4:30/5:00). So, now I'll be bringing home half my income:( I just came home from my MRI but I forgot to ask about getting a copy of it on a disk so now I have to wait for my doctor to call. I'm going to call in a couple days to remind them to call me as soon as they get the MRI report and that I want a copy of the report faxed to me too when they get it. When the doctor calls to explain it, depending on the results, I'm going to see if he can see about having my appt with the Neuro. Surgeon pushed up from Dec 22. If not, then I just wait. Take Care!

I honestly don't know how I received this injury-I would have no way of proving this was a work related injury. Being a day care teacher, I do a lot of lifting of the children, bending, lots of movement, along with cleaning duties of sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, sanititzing, and so on. There are also stairs to go up and down. I have had more e-mails with my boss this weekend and she has no intentions of firing me, but for safety reasons for me so I don't furthur injure myself and with my restrictions from the doctor she doesn't feel there will be work for me until I'm well again. She thinks I should check with my husband's insurance I'm under to see if I would qualfy for disability. This just couldn't come at a worse time:(

Doesn't waiting stink!!! I am soooo tired of waiting.
Call call call to get your MRI results. I have noticed that Dr.'s usually wont call you.
I am glad you are at least able to work a little, even though it is not enough. You will find a way to make it work financially. In the past 2 years, my husband has been laid off 3 times, and I have been laid off once. We also had a baby. For some crazy reason everything worked out fine, although we do have some credit card debt! We never even missed a payment on anything. I don't know how we did it, but we got through it...
