Meet the Spartans

see i'd be quite interested to know the sort of films people found funny who didn't like meet the spartans.

as has been said many times, each person's sense of humour is always very personal and i'd certainly like to know what sort of stuff people found funny that didn't like this.

@ Jasonwatkins...

Funny - Hot Fuzz; Blades of Glory; Dirty Rotten Scoundrels; Bowfinger - to name a few

Not Funny - Wild Hogs; Norbit; Bringing Down the House;

Interesting, because I found Blades of Glory to be completely unfunny - never laughed at all.

But I do agree with your not funny choices though.

As Bal says, I guess not everyone has the same tastes in comedy.

I went to see it today and I was amazed at how much I enjoyed it! It was very funny, and a big load of mixed-up silly trashy send-ups of modern popular culture. I had lowered my expectations because it has had such bad reviews, but I thought it was all very good fun. (As long as one is not expecting any historical or intellectual content).

Even the beautiful Sean Maguire was not as much a part of the reason I liked it as I had expected - he was half-hidden in that silly beard and artificial abdominal muscles.

P.S. I was amused at the fact that there was about 20 minutes of action after the first part of the credits, and it was fun watching the impatient idiots who waddled out of the cinema and missed a large part of the film.

i'm a movie buff. I have over 400 films on DVD and I write short scripts as a hobby - i've had one produced as well.

so i think that qualifies me as "real". I found it funny and i'm not ashamed to say so, but i can also appreciate that not everyone will because it's the age old argument of how personal someone's sense of humour is.

i won't perch up on my high horse and declare myself far too good to watch a film like this - i'll give it a go and if i don't like it, i'll leave the cinema or turn it off.

if i like it, i'll watch it. a "real" movie buff, in my very humble opinion, will be prepared to watch anything and judge it on it's merits, or lack of, afterwarRAB.

I watched it while working nights and I laughed a lot, but I have probably the stupidest sense of humour in the world anyway. I felt there was a lot of room for improvement but it did have parts that were funny. Some of the spoofs were just completely random and out of nowhere and didn't work as they had probably hoped they would but it was still a good way to waste 2 hours of a 12 hour shift

I'm a movie buff like the chap above, but without the writing bit. Just got back from it and whilst it has funny bits in it, certainly a few titters (won't go as far as "laughs") I've seen worse movies (Epic Movie for one!). Agree with the reviews that say avoid, I'm certainly glad I didn't pay to see it (Unlimited Card!).

At the end of the day though, movies are as subjective as music or attraction to the opposite (or same!) sex. It's a personal thing, and one person's turd is another person's Citizen Kane.

I didn't like it, no-one in the cinema did apparently (Chav sitting further down the row as soon as it finished - "Well that was w**k") but you have to give things a chance. I found it better than "Asylum", which is meant to be a bit meatier.

What is putting me of seeing "Meet The Spartans" is it's written & directed by the 2 guys that did "Epic Movie".Which i thought was an awful film. But then again i've got the Cineworld Card so even if it's rubbish i won't have wasted any money.

Just came from the cinema to see the film and it was so unfunny. I feel conned, not to mention the un-subtle constant ad placements  :(

I so should of have it coming :o

Really dreadfull film I thought, people were chatting all thru it in the cinema we watched it in which is never a good sign.
Sean Maguire was just awful. his accent was all over the place and he is just so wooden.

The movie is only 1 hour long, with 20 mins of credits and dancing! Its that bad.

However I still say House of the Dead is the worst movie ever.

Considering i watched 10mins of Date Movie and thought it was pants, im gonna say this is going to be crap too.

Ill watch if im bored one day and its on TV, i prefer real comedy, not stupid comedy.

My girlfriend and I walked out of the cinema last night about 45 minutes into this (including trailers). I've never done that before, but I just couldn't find the funny in this at all.

Horrendous script, too many 'jokes' that just missed wildly. The most irritating thing about it was when the writers came on what they thought was a good idea, they milked for three or four minutes. How many people had to be kicked into the pit of death? How many stupid dance-oRAB did we have to endure? I saw the American Idol and Next Top Model juding panels - I assume there were more as it went on.

I can't imagine we were the last people to get up and leave. Best decision made - went home and watched Airplane!
