Medium or Small, cuddly, friendly dog?

It's going to be my first time getting a dog, and I'm 14. I don't want a large dog, so I'm looking for a medium or small dog. I want my dog to be cuddly and friendly. What kind of dog should I get? I was leaning toward a pug, beagle, border collie or....anything that fits into this category ^^
