For the last two months I've had wicked bad allergies. It seems to be to everything outside... started pretty much when the snow that had been on the ground since Deceraber melted in March. I've tried Aerius, Claritin, Allegra, and now Reactine. I've tried all of them for a couple weeks each. The Allegra worked for about a week and same with the Reactine. Now I have got to the end of the OTC medications and the only thing that works is benedryl, but that makes me a zorabie.

Some nights it is hard to sleep. I can't breathe through my nose, sneeze several times, and end up with a really sore throat and itchy palate. I had some Attarax leftover from some hives I got from a reaction to penicillin (which I am also allergic to) and I was taking that at night so I could sleep, but I ran out of that. Benedryl helps me sleep, but by about 4 am it wears off.

I don't have asthma. I've only had seasonal allergies the last two years and this year is ten times worse than last year. My eyes are itchy and water; sometimes it feels like there is something in my eye. My nose itches and runs. I have post nasal drip. My ears are so incredibly itchy and have been for a couple years. I was told it's otitis something or other... nothing they can do, but give me drops when its horrible.

Any other medications out there that could help me? I have a thing about nose sprays... I don't like those... I am going to call my family doctor tomorrow to see if I can get an appointment, but I usually have to wait a few weeks to get in unless it's urgent. Just curious to hear from others who have been in the same boat/ or similar boat to the one I am in.

Thanks in advance.

I've been having bad side effects from allergy meRAB AND allergic asthma for the first time in my life. I bought myself a HEPA filter for the bedroom, and when I get home I shower, wash my hair, leave my clothes outside the room and hang out there. Pollen avoidance is a major pain, but it's helping me a lot.

Claritin doesn't work immediately, by the way. If you start taking it only after the allergies begin, you might not see an effect for several days.
