Hello everyone I was just wondering if anyone had some good experience with medications. I recently had a doctor's appointment and was told that she would like to put me on medication for my anxiety. I am concerened about side affects and weight gain. I am just wondering if anyone has a suggested medication that has worked really well for them.

Thank you

I have taken a few which only made my anxiety worse to the point I could not stand it. Then I would have to take a Xanax. This is an excellent medicine, but highly addictive. I think alot of doctors prefer a different route than this. My doctor actually changed me from that to Klonopin. It is still in the benzo class of drugs, but the from what I read it is still addictive but very much easier to wean off of. I'm trying Paxil now. I'm on my second dose so i'm weeks away from knowing if it is good for anxiety or not. I took it for mood swings in the past and it worked excellently. No weight gain for me. It just takes about 6 weeks for the full effect.

I started taking 10 mgs. of Lexapro for anxiety about 3 weeks ago and it's helped my anxiety a lot. One thing I'm not happy about is that so many people have said they gained a lot of weight from it. It also causes drowsiness, but that's easing up some for me. I'm happy to not be anxious all the time. Hope you find a med. that works well for you.

Thank you for your replys. I know sometimes it is trial anderror with meRAB . I am don't want to take them, but I am told helth wise I am doing everything I can and am still getting anxiety attacks.

I have taken the same dose of xanax 0.5 mg for about 5 years with no dosage increase. It has been a lifesaver for me. I cant tolerate ssris. For any doctor that says they are addictive...I say "bye bye"....you need to find a VERY intelligent doctor and only then will you get relief. It really changed my life.{REMOVED} but in my opinion the absolute best for generalized anxiety disorder...not depression which I never had

I like Xanax too, but so many Drs. out here are reluctant to prescribe it. I take 0.25 mgs. once or twice a day. It helps me sleep and relieves pain as well as anxiety. Our Internist retired and his replacement wouldn't prescribe it for me, so I found a different Dr.

I think my doctor did mention that she also mentioned Atavan (SP?) for when I am just having the panic attack. She knows I am one that doesn't even like to take tylenol , but I knwo I need a little bit of help.
