As a child, i always wanted to become a medical doctor. During my junior & senior year of high school i finally decided the major i wanted to take and the kind of doctor ( Orthopedic Surgeon ) i wanted to be. As of now I'm beginning my freshmen year in college as a biology major taking the necessary classes for medical school.

I just wanted to know my chances of getting in , the GPA medical schools like John Hopkins are looking for , how hard the MCAT is & if there are classes i can take like the SAT to help me achieve the perfect entrance score?

* Also , what MCAT scores are good for John Hopkins , my residency as an Orthopedic Surgeon , & does it matter if your going to a junior college ( i'm transferring out to Emory or U. Of Chicago my junior year ) . .

ThANKKKK YOU! for all yur guidance & answered questions (:

Med schools don't care if you went to community college or junior college before you went to university. That won't matter. What matters is your overall GPA, your science GPA, your MCAT score, letters of recommendation, volunteer work, physician shadowing, etc. The fact that you went to community college is immaterial.

Do take some of the med school pre-req classes at community college. But make sure that you save at least half of them for once you get to university. That's what schools like Johns Hopkins recommend.

What I would recommend is that you make sure you're taking all the math you need at the community college. I don't know what math you are in now, but you need to take through calculus by the time you leave university, so make sure you're taking math now, so that you can take calc when the time comes.

There are MCAT prep classes, but don't take those (or the MCAT) until after you've completed all or most of the med school pre-req classes.

The average GPA for students getting into any US med school last year was about a 3.6/3.7. You can look up the specific GPA and MCAT scores for any med school in the US News and World Report "Best Grad School" edition, which is on newsstands right now. You can buy it at Borders or Barnes & Noble, or you can order it off the US News website.
