MediaScannerService error?

I got my milestone in hand. And I have got the problem that when I put my .mp3 into my milestone, the music library doesnt refresh at all. It means I cannot play the new .mp3 files. However I can find the files by using es file explorer and play it. But all the tags are blank.

After I look for the reason, I found that the MediaScannerService in the running service keeps restarting. Is it a bug? As I tag the album art by MP3Tagger, anyone knows? Thanks.

I don't have this problem... my MP3s add fine, I can see the album art and all the tags when I open the media player.

You could test to see if it's the tagging program you're using, by downloading an MP3 from Amazon (they don't cost much), and seeing if it works. These are already tagged and have album art embedded, and I know they work fine for me without any adjustment. Copy it straight to your SD card using Windows - don't use any software to do it.

If that works, you know it's MP3Tagger at fault. I ditched MP3Tagger for MediaMonkey because I had other problems with it.

There are also two versions of ID3 tags (ID3v1 and ID3v2). Android uses ID3v2, so make sure MP3Tagger is set to use that version of the tags.

When you say the MediaScannerService keeps restarting, what do you mean? Is it Force Closing? Are you getting any errors? Are you having to manually restart it? How do you know it's not just stopping because it's finished updating the media list and restarting because you've loaded the media player and it needs to check?

ID3v2 = ID3v2.3??? As I see the properties of the mp3 files, it shows [ID3v2.3 (ID3v1 ID3v2.3)]

MediaScannerService keeps restarting means it keeps showing on the the Running service even though I reboot my device. Also, I had deleted my .mp3 files in SD through my PC but my milestone still had the name of the files inside the library. BUT IT IS NOT PLAYABLE. It seems the library stop refreshing at all.

Anyways, thanks for your response

When you reboot your device, a whole load of services start. So seeing the MediaScannerService running after a reboot is normal. It may also start when other events occur, like mounting/unmounting your SD card, or starting the Music app.

Try clearing the media data on the phone by going to Home -> Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications -> Media Storage -> Clear data.

milestone, i had this problem too
Extorian, MediaScannerService after reboot was eat my battery until phone works. And it happens after every rebooting. It starts if you send by usb any file on SD card.
Milestone, i think i finded reason and solution (sorry for my russian english).
1. After you sent files on SD, do not disconnect simply. Try to click on Safely Remove;
2. You can also download any app Task Manager (for example EStrong Task ...) and kill the process named "usb" (i think that motor milestone after disconnecting usb still thinking that she connected)

I'll be glad if it helps somebody.

KWds: mediascannerservice milestone mediasync android.process.media motorola can't see music mp3 on sd
