Over here in sunny, sunny CA there isn't really much of a winter. *Sigh* But there is something about mysteries that gets me in the groove of fall and winter. One of my particular favorites is P.D James, or Ariana Fanklin and Tana French (her books are amazing!). But as for TV shows, I find myself getting wrapped up in anything that is not soap opera. Like a detective show (big suprise there), NCIS or something like that gets me in the winter mood because on the set it is usually cold (east coast).
Movies are harder. I like to snuggle with a comfy blanket and pillow and watch old Miyazaki films to set the mood and then I move on to movies like Fried Green Tomatoes (the rare chic-flick for me) or maybe I decide to get a bit crazy and watch a season's based movie. Boring I know, but the setting in any media sets a mood. That's just how it is folks.
And finally music, ah where would we be without those tone-deaf pop girls and boys and the smooth singing, stomach rumbling snazzy jazzies? Well, no where, that's where.
For me, it's either world sounds, like My Brightest Diamond (look up 'nature boy'). Or maybe a bit of celtic gets me in the cold, mysterious type of mood. Augustana, Coldplay, Nightwish and some choice new groove bands do the trick as well.
