Media coverage of plane crashes?

Is it just me or have there been a whole lot of plane crashes? or is it an increased amount of media coverage? I live in so-cal and ever since about the heroic Hudson plane landing, it seems like the media is covering almost any plane crash or plane accident that it can get its hands on. Even if it's in another country. Supposedly planes are the "safest" form of travel, and I guess that is pretty believable, but the way the media has been going on about all these crashes all over the place has actually led me to ask the question: Are plane crashes increasing (planes becoming unsafe)? or Is the media just covering all the plane tragedies they can get a hold of?

The media always gives great attention to crashes, just until recently, there weren't any in this country. The USA went 7 years without any major crash, then recently, 4 events.

I completely agree with you. I also noticed that there is a lot more coverage lately on plane crashes, and for someone like me who is afraid of heights and extremely afraid of flying, this additional coverage of plane crashes has me more paranoid than ever. It doesn't help that I am planning on attending my best friend's wedding and I have to fly in one month...I have been very anxious about flying and hearing about all these plane crashes has me totally freaked out...even though they claim that it is STILL the best and safest way to travel. I too wondered if maybe they are concentrating more on the crashes now because of the Hudson plane landing and it is something that people are still talking about. I wonder though how old the planes were that are falling apart or how much the pilot might be at fault? our cars break down all the time and some can still be pretty new when things fall apart - the only good thing is that you don't fall out of the sky when that happens....
