A lot of shops it's normal, If something else comes in for a small repair then they may do it right away while the person waits.

Coffee breaks, Lunch break, going to get parts that are required for the repair, hard to remove bolts, broken bolts. It all adds up.

I don't agree with it as if someone starts working on a car I think they should finish it. That's also why I wouldn't take a vehicle to a repair shop, unless it was a dealer for a warranty item.

My Mechanic tells me it's approximately 2 hrs to do the repairs to my car.

I drop it off I ask when I can pick it up. He says noon (which means 4 hours now instead of 2) I say I thought it was 2hrs, he says "well ya but in case we run into a glitch to be safe I will say 12" I say okay...3 hours go by so I call to check up.

I say well I guess you must have ran into a glitch? He says "no..no glitch just other things on the go." He'll call in a few minutes. Well an hour and 15 minutes goes by. No call. I call back, and at 12:15 (remember 12 noon at the latest IF he runs into a glitch) and now he says he is waiting on some part and the car is all apart.

I just tell him fine, I will just go about my day (had plans for the day so asked friend if they would just pick me up) Told him I would just get the car in the a.m. so I could stop waiting around and meet up with my friend. Is this the norm for mechanics? and if so WHY? Please insight guys...

what repair?? take apart...call parts store...wait...get parts...uh oh some missing...call again wait get parts.... trouble getting parts fitted...broke tool...go to go to bathroom...uhhhh.Relief...break..smoke and coffee...help other mechanic lift the tranny 20 minutes shot... been there.. nothing goes as planed...i learned to drop it off 8 am pick it up 4/5 pm

have patients, your not the only vehicle they're working on, plus don't you realize you calling them non stop is slowing them down and probably pisses them off after the 3rd call so they will attentionally work slower, they don't charge for actual time worked ont he car, each job on each vehicle has a set number of hours to charge so if it says 1 1/2 hours in the book then thats how much labor they charge even if it took 3 hours
