mechanical problem on a 2005 dodge stratus sedan sxt. 100105 miles on it. ?

my car is experiencing trouble but i do not know who to believe. my brother tells me its my fuel filter, and my friend tells me it may be my straina* in my transmission. when i am driving my car, accelerating or going up a hill or sometimes just by random, my car seems to studder like its running out of gas. and sometimes when i crank my car up the first time it will seem like the whole motor is shaking then it wont crank, but on the second crank it does just fine. please help!!!!
 
check the spark plugs on that one,i own two of those and the one i got had not had the plugs changed in about 5 years and it started doing this and all that was wrong with it was the plugs and wires needed to be replaced,and it was also making it hard to start sometimes,and it will make it do what yours is doing when it gets in a strain and needs the extra power,that could also be a fuel pump starting to go bad or like your brother said a fuel filter causing that too happen,it might be a good idea to also hae the computer scanned to see if does have any trouble codes stored in it,this might help solve the running problem with it.good luck
