Meaning of "Edge"...

I have a blackberry pearl and I wanted to know if the word "Edge" means that it's using roaming minutes instead...

Last night I took the battery out after having the phone service recently hooked up and I noticed that it said "Edge" instead of "GSM", since it was how I had it before...
All this came about after placing an order for a ringtone that I haven't gotten yet... since it was a free ringtone, it was mentioned that the order will be cancelled after 24 hours.

So, Does the "edge" transmission is impeding in getting a normal cell signal?
 
Edge just means what tower you are running off of in terms of internet. If you live in a 3G area and go to use internet, it says "3G" on the top. If you are in a GSM area (GSM being the voice service you are running off of) it will say Edge or just have an "E". Sometimes it can say GPRS but I think that's on older phones. It has nothing to do with roaming or anything and really shouldn't affect anything when it comes to the quality of your service, except for the fact that in a 3G area your browser, downloads, etc etc will be much faster.

And about your ringtone, did you actually download it? A lot of people get confused, but after you purchase it, and I use that term loosely since yours was free, but it should take you to a page with a link that you have to select to download it. If you are still having problems I would call customer care, but make sure to do so from another phone, that way they can do proper troubleshooting with you.
