MDA or E61 for Tmobile?

My sidekick 2 just died a few days ago and I'm in desperate need of a new phone. I did a bit of research, but now I can't decide between an MDA from the tmobile store or an unlocked Nokia E61.

I don't care about cameras, so not having one on the E61 wouldn't be a huge loss. Other than that, I want good, clean web browsing, AIM, and perhaps email. Also, mp3 player function is a plus, since I don't currently have one. I'm a college student, not a business user if that matters. However, I'm a pretty big tech geek so I want something nice and customizable that I can use for entertainment and communication on the go when I'm not near a computer (which is often lately) and in class, and so on.

So, what should I get? They're essentially the same price, so that isn't a factor. I just want the best one.

It depends what do you prefer symbian or wm

I have used both. I have used BB as well.
Over all very pleased with Bb and now very pleased with symbian.

WM didnt cut it for me. Had to many issues. The devices I have had, I have three wm devices, all needed soft reset almost every week! too much memory leak I guess.

That being said I am with E61 for about 1.5+ months. Going to be 2.
Very happy, its reliable, and always working fast.

It pushes my email, does my calendar, saves my contact.
I can watch movie on it.. why spend money on ipod video?
I have recently... stopped carrying my nano..

just use e61! for my music... i have 2 gb minisd. works beautifully!

actually this one is sort of a tossup... you should get whichever form factor you like. do you like the keyboard exposed or do you like the slide. because for you needs, they both get it done. the 8125 is like a mini computer but not nearly as powerful and the e61 is like a pda

the other parta you need to realize is that wm devices have been aroudn for a while. So, they have applications floating around. Symbian s60 v3 is new... so applications are still in the process of gettig ported over... or new applications coming up!

if you like a phone which is light thin, has all the features one would want, plus excellent screen...great call quality! you should go for e61

I dont mind mda as well. it seems a bit clunky to me... and wm devices.. havent had any luck with em

ok, first of all you freakin sound like you work for you nokia... lol. and second of all, he says he wants something you can customize. last i checked you cant put anything on the dumb today screen on the e61, can you put weather. no. rss feeds. no. anything. basically no. secondly he wants aim. all the aim clients for e61 suck. entertainment is a tossup really, id only give the e61 the slight edge possibly beacuse the screen but thats for videos, and how much music or videos can you fit on a 2gb mini sd card?? and the e61 has problems with imap4. hes also a "geek" so the mda has a more wow factor, geek factor, and its a more fun device because symbian gets boring after a while. maybe when nokia allows people to add to the today screen and there are more 3rd party apps, itll be more of a challenge. however if your gonna be talking, messaging, and emailing ONLY get the e61, if you want more "fun" stuff like rss or weather on your today or being able to download some stupid programs get the mda... by the way how old are you??

The mda is pretty cool ive had it for a week but its just not for me. Its real easy as far as aim and messaging goes has a nice setup. My bro has one too and unlike me absolutely loves it so if its mainly for aim and texting id say go with the mda

wow, my howardforums is going soooooooooo slow... is this happening to anyone else? it takes like 4 minutes to load a page. but everything else is working fine... any idea??

1) I wish I work for nokia would be cool. I work for GE.

You do have strong points there. I do agree that you cannot put things on the screen I think this was the point I mentioned in the main forum. However, I also said that there is enough information as well. You get music info, you get calendar, todo list. Yes weather app is missing. You can make an icon and get to it. But yes, auto weather forecasts like wm devices is missing for sure.

Like I said earlier, if you want loads of apps, go for wm5. But then wm devices, I have had no luck with em. Lot of memory leak. Mine needed constant soft reset.

Well it depends on your usage really... for some people two clicks to check weather is not a big issue. But for some people it is. Really personal opinion per say. How many times do you check weather on your today screen? Prolly like twice a day?

I check weather once in the morning when I head out for work and once I am heading down back from work. Two times. Rest I don't care what the weather is.. I am in my house! So, like I said, its a personal thing!

So, yes nokia could have used the screen in a better way but then it looses its business appeal enough said...

for aim, I use agile... not probs at all?

MDA it is then (it's also easier to get ahold of considering I've been without a phone for a week).

This is not the scope of this thread, but what are some of the better browsers for it, kisher?
